Macau sees an increase in total gross gaming revenues for the second week in a row.

Despite the continued existence of travel restrictions due to the coronavirus, the almost 40 casinos in Macau apparently managed to rake up approximately $11.3 million in aggregated gross gaming receipts for the seven days beginning on September 4.

This was an increase of nearly 4.5% compared to the previous week's total of over $10.9 million, as reported by Asia Gaming Brief using data from famous Asian brokerage company Sanford C Bernstein Limited. The source also noted that the lockdown in the major Chinese city of Chengdu had been lifted, which contributed to the improvement, though those coming from Macau must still show proof of a negative coronavirus nucleic acid test (NAT) conducted within the previous 48 hours in order to enter the mainland.

Professional Evaluation:

Macau's Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations began on Saturday, and analyst Vitaly Umansky from Sanford C Bernstein Limited reportedly remarked that the most recent statistic arrived at that time. According to the supposedly seasoned analyst, only about 16,000 tourists are expected to enter the former Portuguese enclave over the course of this three-day holiday period, and the local casino industry's recovery prospects going into the week-long Golden Week break from the first day of October are 'tepid.'

Umansky reportedly issued a statement that stated...

Travel to Macau should stay low until tourists have more faith in the safety of their trip and regulations are eased. China's travel rules are anticipated to impede the rate of recovery in September and October for aggregated gross gaming revenues.

A comparison of clouds:

According to Sanford C Bernstein Limited, Macau's daily average gross gaming revenues plummeted 53% year-over-year to barely $11 million during the first week of September. According to the Hong Kong-based company, this number is 88% lower than the same period pre-pandemic 2019, yet it is 30% higher than the average recorded in August.

Success in a Visit:

In addition, the brokerage supposedly confirmed that the average number of visitors entering and leaving Macau for the first week of September rose by 10% sequentially to 32,300, with the number of visitors exceeding 20,000 for the first time since August 13. This is despite being significantly lower than the first-half mean of 37,000 visitors. According to their reported findings, average daily visitors for local casinos over the same week increased by 53% to 21,200, however this was still 43% lower than the previous record of 57,000 witnessed in May of last year, when the coronavirus was at its worst.

The final prognostic:

According to the report's final prediction, the total gross gaming revenues earned by Macau's casinos in September are expected to be about 87% lower than the $2.73 billion recorded in the same month prior to the 2019 pandemic. Yet, it supposedly claimed that such a figure would result from an increase of 32% in daily average receipts compared to the previous month's performance.
